It is no secret that women are different from men. While it may be true that we both have a stomach, intestinal tract and colon, it is wrong to assume that our digestive systems are "the same". Unlike men, women are subject to the fluctuating hormones that accompany menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. Many of us use birth control pills or choose to undergo hormone replacement therapy. We may have hemorrhoids or fecal incontinence after childbirth. Or, we may have been affected by eating disorders or "fad" dieting in the past. All of the above, most being distinctly female health issues, have consequences for our gastrointestinal (or GI) health.
In addition, we believe that the GI tract is a barometer of general wellbeing. For instance, we are more likely to develop digestive problems when we are under stress or when not eating as we should. This may sound obvious, but these facts are often overlooked in the medical community.
Our holistic approach to a woman's digestive health will place particular emphasis on positive lifestyle changes. It may require specialized procedures and prescription medications. Finally, the goal of comprehensive patient care may include referral to other qualified specialists. We have worked to develop a network of trusted nutritionists, gynecologists, psychologists and massage therapists.
We promote and practice preventive medicine. We are committed not only to women's digestive health, but to women's overall health and wellbeing!
